He Messed with My Car

I love cars. I grew up watching my Dad work on his Hot Rods. I love the Top Fuel dragsters, the rumble of an engine, the power and adrenaline it ignites, and the speed. It’s just in my blood. I have said before that if I wasn’t a Speech Pathologist I wanted to be a race car driver and I’m not totally counting it out altogether still… but I may be a little too tall… 😉

Needless to say, if you want to really see me get agitated it’s when something happens to my Stang…and boy, did Satan try his best to today.

This past week was rough. My mind was swimming with anxiety, worry, made-up scenarios, and figuring out solutions to things that haven’t even happened…yet, or if at all.

I’m a planner. Can you relate?

I had been doing really well staying at peace with life, work, relationships, home. I was super at peace, like, I was almost gonna start worrying about how at peace I was! 🤣

I have been waiting, trusting, staying in my lane, and keeping my eyes on the wheel. 

Then bam! 💥 Satan saw I was doing well and I guess he decided to pay a visit with my mental battlefield. 

For a minute, I had thought about skipping church this morn. I worked out a little longer than usual, was getting ready at a slower pace, but I just felt a pull to go.

I arrived to a full house and sat in the back kind of keeping to myself, ready to hear what was said. Well, the ENTIRE sermon, given by Pastor Ben Stuart, was on not being anxious or worried about our lives and how it steals our focus away from seeking the Kingdom! 

Here are just a few of my favorite quotes from the sermon:

“My preoccupation with hypothetical situations was killing me in real life.”

“The world is not impressed when we sing about the Prince of Peace but live lives of stress.”

“What feels heavy to you is not heavy to Him.”

After church, I spoke with some friends that said they too were dealing with stressors and I’d dare say 99% of us all are. I had an encouraging lunch filled with God-wink sharing, laughs, prayer requests, and then made my way home.

I was turning to go uphill to the grocery store parking lot and that’s when my car completely shut off…dead as a doornail. I lost the power in my steering wheel, all lights on the dashboard were blazing, and my car that was once going forward now quickly started to slide downhill backwards towards the street.

Praise God no one was behind me at that moment and that I was able to think through how to get it to stop quickly…with the help of a miraculous curb’s assistance. 😂

I decided to nix the groceries once it started up again and high-tailed it over to my friends at Pep Boys to get the battery tested.

You would think it was the battery or alternator, maybe? Nah…nothing showed up sick. Absolutely nothing. I’ll have another test done soon but, praying all is ok, it just had to be Satan trying to get at me!

The picture above is a quick snap of the waiting room there and, wouldn’t ya know it, there was even an advertisement for “Moog” that had a picture of a devil in it! 🤦🏻‍♀️

So I will praise Jesus for protecting me and others around me! I will praise my Savior for skilled Pep Boys employees! I will praise God for the timing of the event so that PB was still open and I was near home!

I won’t let the enemy steal my mental peace. He won’t immobilize me, literally or figuratively.

I don’t always write about events so close to when they happen. I usually process things and wrap them up in a pretty little bow. But this is a new day. And you may need to hear this too.

For we have a tool box found in the Word that is filled with more than we could ever need to mend, heal, and defeat whatever Satan tries to pull on us next.

Start your engines, y’all! It’s gonna be a bumpy ride. 🏎️💨

    Thanks for your story. God is with us even in the littlest things. I drive a truck and have learned to rely on God for everything. I will be ready for a nap and pray “ Father, i need a parking spot.” And one will be there waiting for me. Or i will need to do laundry and pray about it and suddenly there is a laundromat with a big enough lot. So even when satan tries to play his games with us, he has no chance, because Jesus is the victor!

    Good one Mandy. I guess tests (Difficult situations) will be there even after reaching the kingdom of God, it’s just that you are no longer disturbed by them.
