I wasn’t going to write about this. One more person sharing a workout or weight loss story. More pictures of food saying how tasty they are when you know good and well it’s not better than a hamburger and ice cream cone.
But…I write.
And what is the good of doing something for you that could possibly motivate someone else and not share it? So, if you’re still reading…
It was a lazy Saturday afternoon. I was sitting on my comfortable couch reclined with no intentions of getting up for a long time. I must mention, before I go any further, that I am a devout infomercial watcher. It doesn’t matter if it’s for food, hair, laundry, or even vacuuming up pet hair (yeah, that’s gross but still amazing to watch).
I remember watching the OxiClean infomercial over and over and over. I thought that the man selling it was yelling a little too loud (may he RIP) but I loved it anyway. Next came Magic Bullet where it started to look more like a soap opera with a scripted housewife, businessman, etc… but I didn’t care. It still fascinated me.
Well, back to the lazy Saturday afternoon and here I am. Fumbling through the channels until I reach…a new infomercial. It was Shaun T’s “Focus T25.” I love watching makeover shows too so I was hooked after seeing the before and after pictures of the men and women and their ab muscles.
Well, after watching the infomercial 3 times in a row…I was hooked. I was going to buy it.
So I did.
You see, I have self-confidence. I feel pretty good about my body and it’s measurements although I wish it could be spread out a little more evenly. But, I also weigh more right now than I ever have and I know that it’s not going to get any easier to lose or maintain a healthy self the older I get.
I’ve never followed a weight loss regimen or workout plan. I do have a gym membership and try to go at least 1-2 times a week but I don’t go with friends. I generally listen to music the whole time and pretend I’m a supermodel on a runway. I’m not kidding. In fact, I actually dislike working out with people. (Although I do love a good walk or bike ride with friends since you can actually have conversations 🙂 ) But if I’m going to do squats or leg lifts or jump up and down and get wiggly in any way…I don’t want people watching me, that’s all.
With “Focus T25,” you can do the 25-minute workouts in the comfort of your own home, at your own time, and if the trainer gets on your nerves, you can just mute him 😉 The program is 10 weeks long. There are five 25 minute workouts and one 25 minute stretch at the end of the week. You repeat the same DVDs for 5 weeks. The next five weeks is a new DVD set but same outline.
So here I am, two weeks in and feeling really good! I’ve lost around 4 lbs and have been mindfully eating healthier and trying to stay motivated. I’ve noticed HUGE difference with my energy level. Working with children and teenagers for 10 hours a day requires energy.
And it’s not just numbers that can dictate your health. Physical, nutritional, emotional, and mental health all role into your one God-crafted body. And because my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, I need to be responsible for all of its parts and take care of myself!
I won’t lie- the first week stunk. It was hard but I did the modified versions if I couldn’t go all the way and I did take 10 second breaks for water. It didn’t help that my air conditioner decided to quit working that week and another little visitor decided to show up (girls- you get this).
I persevered.
I was sweating buckets.
I felt alive.
I was going to pass out.
I felt energized.
I felt like I stuck my body in an oven.
I focused.
So let this motivate you or at least humor you if you’re not going to do anything else! I’m not going to push the way I’m working out, but if you are busy, or work 10+ hour workdays like I do, it’s hard to set aside a big chunk of time to working out and “Focus T25” is a great program to get you going with little to no hassle.
Unless you count soreness as hassle 😉
Later on, I’ll discuss some of the “healthy habits” I’ve manifested as part of this routine. And yes, I will include a gratuitous “Before / After” shot for those interested at the end of the 10 week program 🙂
*I am by no means affiliated with Focus T25 but am just a sucker for infomercials and finally caved in 🙂
